How to Make Your Tan Last Longer

Self tan fades as your skin naturally renews itself. Slow that turnover down, keep the skin hydrated, and a tan that usually lasts five days can comfortably stretch to seven or eight.

Hydrate every single day

Moisturise morning and night with a light, oil-free lotion. Dry skin flakes, and flaking is what creates the patchy fade most people dislike.

Shower smarter

  • Keep showers short and lukewarm rather than hot.
  • Pat dry with a towel instead of rubbing.
  • Avoid harsh exfoliating scrubs and oil-based products while the tan is on.

What shortens a tan

  • Long hot baths, saunas and steam rooms.
  • Chlorinated pools and salt water.
  • Intense exercise with heavy sweating soon after applying.

Fading evenly

When you are ready to remove the colour, exfoliate gently over two days rather than scrubbing hard in one session. An even fade means your next application starts from a clean base.
