What are peptides?

Peptides are short chains of amino acids joined by peptide bonds. They occur naturally throughout biology and can also be synthesised for laboratory investigation. Researchers study different peptide structures to better understand biochemical pathways, receptor interactions, cellular signalling and other biological processes.

The presence of a compound in research literature does not mean that it is approved or suitable for use in people or animals. Products sold through JOEYPEPTIDES are supplied as research materials only.

What does Research Use Only mean?

Research Use Only means that the material is supplied solely for controlled laboratory, analytical or in-vitro research. It is not supplied as a medicine, food, supplement, cosmetic or veterinary product and must not be consumed, injected, inhaled, applied or otherwise administered to a person or animal.

What is a lyophilised peptide?

Lyophilisation is a freeze-drying process used to remove water from a material under controlled conditions. Many research peptides are supplied as dry lyophilised material because this format can assist with stability during storage and transport.

Storage requirements vary by compound, so researchers should always follow the product-specific documentation supplied for the material.

What is a Certificate of Analysis?

A Certificate of Analysis, commonly called a COA, records analytical information relating to a particular sample or production batch. Depending on the testing performed, a certificate may contain information such as compound identity, batch number, date of analysis, analytical method and reported results.

A COA should be interpreted as documentation for the particular batch tested. It is not medical approval, a guarantee of suitability for human use or evidence that another production batch has identical characteristics.

Why does the batch number matter?

A batch or lot number identifies material produced as part of a particular manufacturing run. Reliable traceability connects the identifier shown on the product to the documentation held for that batch.

Documentation belonging to one production batch should not automatically be treated as evidence for another batch.

What is HPLC?

High-performance liquid chromatography, or HPLC, is an analytical technique used to separate components within a sample. In peptide analysis it is commonly used to examine the sample's chromatographic purity profile.

An HPLC purity figure describes the result produced under the analytical method used. It should not be interpreted as a statement about medical safety or suitability for human use.

What is mass spectrometry?

Mass spectrometry, often abbreviated to MS, measures the mass-to-charge characteristics of molecules within a sample. In peptide analysis it can be used to provide evidence that the measured molecular mass is consistent with the expected compound.

HPLC and mass spectrometry answer different analytical questions, which is why they are often used together.

What does peptide purity mean?

Purity is an analytical measurement generated using a defined testing method. For peptides, chromatographic purity is commonly reported using HPLC.

A percentage should always be read together with the method, sample and batch information associated with the analysis rather than treated as a universal property of every vial bearing the same compound name.

Storage and laboratory handling principles

Storage conditions differ between compounds and product formats, so the documentation supplied with a particular material always takes precedence over general guidance. Delivered material should be moved into the appropriate controlled storage environment promptly and kept in conditions consistent with that documentation.

Laboratory handling should follow the researcher's own approved institutional procedures, including recording of received material, retention of batch identifiers and consistent labelling of stored samples.

Documentation and traceability

Traceability means being able to connect the material in front of you to the records held for it: the product reference, the batch identifier and any analytical documentation associated with that batch.

Where analytical documentation is held for a product or batch, it is shown against that product. We do not display a certificate, or claim independent verification, unless the corresponding documentation is actually held.
